Women of Color Cultural Foundation

Saturday, February 6th the Women of Color Cultural Foundation hosted Heart of a Woman, a great event for learning about cardiovascular health. It was a luncheon held at WJCT.

250+ women and men all dressed in beautiful red ate lunch and learned about preventing and treating heart disease. I did a short presentation on yoga and how to slow down using breathing techniques and easy yoga postures. A cardiologist and a doctor of pharmacy also educated us on heart disease. I learned a lot about women's risk for developing heart disease and heart attack. Didn't know that it is the leading cause of death for women.

Also got to talk with women interested in doing yoga on the Northside-- my neighborhood. It would be great to do some yoga closer to home!

Renaissance Saturday Morning Yoga Calender

Heather Hixon and I share teaching of the Saturday Morning class at Renaissance Healing Center.

One Saturday Heather teaches and the next I teach...or maybe she teaches two in a row and I teach the following two in a row. It depends. To help folks keep track of who will be teaching when, I made a calendar that takes us from December 2009 through September 2010.

Click here to check the calendar. See you then!

August Teaching Schedule

I will be teaching at Renaissance Healing Center at 10am on the following Saturdays in August:
  • 8th
  • 15th
  • 29th

Thai Yoga Massage

On August 15th and 16th I'll be learning some Thai Yoga Massage with Iain of Blue Lotus Ancient Healing.

Thai Yoga Massage is an amazing art that is a dynamic and meditative dance of putting the recipient in yoga-like postures. I've heard it called "lazy man's yoga."

I am very much looking forward to my first Thai Yoga Massage at the end of this month and next month's workshop. The following month I'll be traveling to another Thai Yoga Massage workshop-- this one for five days. The teacher is from the Lotus Palm School.

One of the things that I find most striking is that at the heart of Thai Massage is the idea of metta, loving-kindness.

Stay tuned for more in the coming months...
